They key to get better at Madden 23 current gen (old gen) starts with your a shift in your mindset.
Do not fall into the trap of trying to apply every real-life football concept to Madden.
I hear this all the time, “I feel I understand football very well but I can not seem to get Madden down”.
Madden and real life football are different. Should it be that way? Probably not.
However, if you want to reach your full potential on Madden, you need to learn the “Madden language.”

9 years ago, I was just like you. I was curious as to how I could become the best player (or at least be competitive).
I would seek out resources online through Youtube and Google.
Then I would go and play online h2h and I was DOMINANT. I am talking top 3 on the regs ladders every year for 3 years.
But I finally ran into a problem…

I found it hilarious because I was convinced that I was the best Madden player in the world.
Who the hell did VY think he was? I was top 3 in the WORLD. I was DOMINANT vs my boys.

He beat me by 56. I had a better chance of getting struck by lightning while simultaneously getting hit by a train than I did of dreaming of scoring a single point vs. him.
My defense? Sorrier than Pete Carroll’s playcall in the superbowl deciding to call a pass at the one yard line with Marshawn Lynch.

Madden does utilize a lot of real-life concepts and I incorporate many real-life concepts into my courses and programs.
However, you have to remember Madden is a video game with its flaws. You have to accept the game for what it is. Trust me there are many aspects of Madden that I hate with a passion.
Everyone rages over broken aspects of the game from time to time, even pros. Say it with me, it is what it is.
In my courses, I do cover concepts like verticals to beat Cover 2 over-the-top and the curl flat concepts to slash Cover 4 underneath.
Then flood concepts are very popular in competitive Madden to take advantage of a solo defender by unleashing two receivers at that defender at different depths.
A play like “Flood” from Gun Bunch is a popular concept in Madden 22 but this a highly used concept on every Madden.
No exploit, glitch, or cheese involved. It uses simple math. In 95% of stock defenses in Madden, there is only ONE defender dedicated to guard the sidelines.
So a flood concept like this uses TWO receiving targets to attack the sidelines at different depths. It is a 2 vs. 1 matchup where the defender has to pick his poison.
Now there will be plenty of aspects in Madden that would never make sense in real life.
Offenses in competitive Madden revolve around crossing routes and corner routes because they are the toughest routes for zones to defend.
But just like in real life, coaches devise a strategy to put players in the best position to defend certain concepts.
That is your job as the player. To devise a strategy to put your players in the best position to stop certain plays.
