Position Overview

The Office of Global Engineering Leadership (OGEL) in the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park is seeking a Coordinator for Experiential Programs to engage in a number of unique areas and opportunities supported by the Office, including: undergraduate onboarding; leadership development; and global training and administrative support.


The Coordinator is designed to Advance UMDs Fearlessly Forward vision by (1) leading in the development of innovative and inclusive approaches for teaching and learning; (2) expanding the use of high-impact experiential learning to ensure every student has the opportunity to learn through public service, civic engagement, internships and project-based experiences; and (3) creating opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration that fosters creative expression, discovery, and critical thinking. This role will help support the implementation of Vertically Integrated Projects within Maryland Engineering and will be integral in weaving the values of diversity, equity and inclusion into the opportunities available to our undergraduate population.


In close partnership and coordination with the College of Education, the Coordinator administers and implements intergroup dialogue courses within the Clark School which includes the opportunity to co-instruct 1-2 sections per year. This position will also be integral in the development of a centralized support structure for the 30+ engineering student organizations and student societies housed in the Clark School.


While not required, the ideal candidate has a background in student affairs, higher education, leadership, industrial or systems thinking, organizational development, or related field. No engineering experience is expected or required of this position.

The Office of Global Engineering Leadership

The Office of Global Engineering Leadership (OGEL) in the A. James Clark School of Engineering serves as the central hub for global programs, leadership development initiatives, and undergraduate onboarding in the Clark School. The Clark School has one of the highest engineering abroad participation levels in the country, offers a large Minor program and associated leadership courses, and serves as a campus leader in onboarding undergraduate students with a Diversity and Inclusion focus. OGEL’s programs seek to develop in our students the ability to lead with a global vision, engage in inclusive leadership practices, and engineer solutions that improve communities and organizations.

Key Roles and Responsibility:

Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) Program Administration and Support: 35%

  • Manage student and faculty outreach, marketing, & recruitment to increase VIP participation
  • Administer the VIP application process for students and faculty
  • Maintain student records and participation in VIP projects
  • Serve as an administrative support to faculty to support their VIP projects
  • Serve as a UMD representative to the VIP consortium including attending its annual meeting
  • Organize semesterly gatherings of UMD VIP student and faculty community
  • Support the development and implementation of an annual VIP showcase event
  • Submit new courses through CourseLeaf which accompany credit bearing experiential engineering programs
  • Take the administrative lead in scheduling courses which accompany credit bearing experiential engineering programs for each semester through SIS

Engineering Student Organization Administration and Support: 30%

  • Support student organizations with recruitment and outreach
  • Update and maintain student org database, website and listserv
  • Develop streamlined communication between Maryland Engineering and student organizations
  • Organize a student organization showcase embedded as part of the Dean’s Welcome
  • Develop and administer a space and funding allocation process for student organizations
  • Submit room reservation requests for student organizations advised by Office of the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs
  • Provide guidance and support to student organizations as they go through the registration process with SORC
  • Support the development and administration of a process for recognizing student organizations in Maryland Engineering
  • Meet twice per semester with Maryland Engineering student organization advisors to provide information about the registration process, retreat planning, recruitment events and opportunities, etc.
  • Maintain relationship with Student Org Resource Center (SORC) to learn about new policies, events, and support offered for student organizations and support staff
  • Administer the diversity and inclusion student organization mini-grants application process in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Diversity & Equity
  • Develop and provide training and support to student organization advisors

Maryland Engineering Intergroup Dialogue ProgramAdministration and Support:25%

  • Support administrative aspects of facilitator recruitment, training and placement of Clark School faculty/staff
  • Develop and conduct marketing and outreach to recruit new facilitators and engineering student participants to take part in ENES138 courses
  • Manage course registration and student placement process
  • Manages course enrollment, scheduling, and evaluation
  • Responds to student, staff, and faculty inquiries regarding intergroup dialogue courses housed in the Clark School of Engineering
  • Assist with compiling and writing reports related to diversity education opportunities in the Clark School
  • Support and communicate with intergroup dialogue facilitators regarding course management and grading
  • Facilitate 1 section of ENES138 each academic year
  • Submit new courses through CourseLeaf which accompany credit bearing experiential engineering programs
  • Take the administrative lead in scheduling courses which accompany credit bearing experiential engineering programs for each semester through SIS

General Administrative Responsibilities and Support: 10%

  • Provide administrative support for other undergraduate experiential learning opportunities in Maryland Engineering as needed
  • Develop and implement digital and social media marketing for engineering undergraduate experiential learning programming as needed
  • Add approved study abroad courses to the Study Abroad Course Database
  • Provide the Program Manager administrative support in the execution of the ClarkLEAD program

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2 years or more of administrative work experience
  • Strong administrative skills (e.g. attention to detail, leveraging technology to create efficiencies, exceptional documentation and record management skills)
  • Project management skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to utilize technology to support program administration and support
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team
  • Commitment to creating conditions for all students to be successful, thrive, and feel a sense of belonging
  • Fluency in graphic design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suites, or other design platforms
  • Thrives in a fast-paced high functioning work environment committed to operational excellence

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, leadership, industrial or systems thinking, organizational development, or related field
  • Experience working with students in a university setting
  • Hold or be able to obtain a valid passport and travel internationally.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary in the mid 50s – low 60s depending on experience
  • Eligible for a hybrid weekly schedule (2 days remote/3 days in-person)
